Publicación Sólo datos Presión positiva continua de la vía aérea en recién nacidos del Hospital General Sancti Spiritus(Universidad Metropolitana de Educación, Ciencia y Tecnología, 2023-07-31) Gandoy Álvarez, Diana Caridad; Regalado López, Rusanna Maydelis; López Fuentes, Manuel Ramón; González Méndez, Adrian; Ibarra Fiallo, YuniorIntroduction: During the last 5 to 10 years, the use of the CPAP device has increased dramatically. It is considered that mechanical ventilation and nasal CPAP are effective supports in Respiratory Distress Syndrome, with the use of surfactant; the latter so involved in lung adaptation to extra uterine life, thus preventing atelectasis. Objective: to evaluate the response of newborns with respiratory distress and alveolar recruitment to continuous positive airway pressure ventilation at Hospital Camilo Cienfuegos. Method: A cross-sectional descriptive observational study was carried out at the Camilo Cienfuegos General Teaching Hospital in the Province of Sancti Spiritus, in the period from April 2019 to April 2020. Results: most neonates with respiratory distress were male; It was possible to determine that 45.45% of the cases were born with sufficient weights of 3,001 grams or more and that for 95.45% of the cases the non-invasive ventilatory method was successful. Conclusions: Continuous Positive Airway Pressure is a safe and useful method that should be used in premature neonates with respiratory distress, to reduce the incidence of complications.
